recommendations for digital video recorders?

At the lower end of the price structure, you're gonna get lower end products. If the price is the main determinant, then you're pretty much gonna hafta settle for whatever happens to be the price you wanna pay. If features and performance are what you're after, then the more of each you want, the more you're gonna pay.

In the price catigory you're lookin' at, you're gonna get low resolution, limited features, short recording time, and so on. Its a toy category. If a toy is what you want, and you know that's what you're gonna get, then fine. Set your expectations any higher, and you're gonna be guaranteed disappointment.

Aiptek and Mustek tend to be pretty much the same critter, BTW - different badges, same toy.
