@blatham,
Football pundits use language like that all the time, they're not exactly sticklers as far as grammar goes.

This is from the ticket site.

"England face Brazil next Saturday" is normal British English, using "face", the plural form (England is a team). Saturday starts with a capital S.

Using a plural verb for a team, a company, a rock group, etc is perfectly normal British English.

For the benefit of the OP, keep in mind that what is acceptable in British English may not be acceptable in other English-speaking countries.

If blatham had remembered that what is unacceptable in American English may not be unacceptable in other variants of English, I would not have needed to make my post.
