Situation:
John and Alan are both in the garden. John is thirsty. He asks Alan for a glass of water. The water is in the kitchen. What should John ask Alan?

1) Would you please bring me a glass of water?

2) Would you please fetch me a glass of water?

3) Would you please go and get me a glass of water?

4) Would you please get me a glass of water (the "go and" is implied)?

Thank you.

I would choose 1 - it is (my opinion) the most polite and formal; for more informality 4 would be ok as well. Least would be 2 - makes it sound like a dog. 3 - to me sounds a bit rude to - I think the "go" just comes across that way and it isn't necessary.

From a grammar point of view, all four are fine.
