Whats the story?

this is a simple game (i dont know if its been done before here), you just add to the story.

rules: it has to carry on/link to the previous piece of writing.
try not reply with one line answers unless the situation calls for it.

start:

I climb down from my pedestal, beaming with pride, indicating the conclusion of the initiation. I have spent two long years educating my young apprentice, leading him through the intricate systems of the old ways, preparing him to lead us into the future.
As usual I awake from such a dream as the cold hand of reality slaps me across the face. Is his incompetence my fault, or is it just the way he is? No I banish the thought as shivers spiral down my spine. No creature is that . . .
