Switching tenses within a sentence

In written or spoken English, is it possible to switch or mix tenses within a sentence or should I always be consistent (keeping the same tense)?

If it is possible to switch tenses, would you please give me some examples?

Thank you.

@centrox,
Ordinarily I skip the OP if I see a resp by Cen, who really knows his [her?] busi. However, it's Thu when BH lets me do this all day

@centrox,
Cen it's pertinent, striking, surely, that you should so q: I'm not sure whether you had had anything to do with it, but I did just finish the second of two my BH had provided yesterday, and they were both delicious! If indeed you have had some secret hand in their prep or planning, I thank you most boisterously !!!
