Sorry, from what little I know of baseball I thought they were referred to as batters, but I'll bow to your superior knowledge.
A baseball player only has to face a maximum of 3 balls per innings, that's half an over. In the watered down 20/20 matches 120 balls are bowled per side, for one day matches it's 80 overs and test matches are something else entirely. You can't really judge a batsman unless he's spent the best part of a day, or even longer, at the crease.
