NASA Science News for February 11, 2003 (newsletter)

A NASA satellite has taken a picture of the Big Bang's ancient afterglow. Scientists have analyzed the data and learned that the universe is 13.7 billon years old (plus or minus 1 percent) and that the first stars appeared only 200 million years after the Big Bang. It Is interesting. But of what value is there in it's knowing? Is it worth the billions spent in the research. Is it just a quest for knowledge?

Its funny after watching CNN all day and the major network's nightly news broadcasts tonight to only hear about this "milestone in cosmology" in a Nasa e-mail. But I guess there was a lot of news today.

au, imagine the human desire for manifest destiny as a focal point of the world working together on a common goal. Imagine money spent together on this type of thing instead of on war. It would make the world even smaller, bring countries together.... too bad it's just a pipe dream.

if there was no war to spend money on, it'd be pocket change. Anyway, NASA research comes up with some useful stuff in it's quest for the stars. You know, velcro and stuff <grin>

This is said to be a strong evidence for the Big Bang theory (theories). Is it yet to be known whether Big Bang was an accident or the event of necessity?
