Ceramic kiln's ampage / resistance question

Hi
I have a ceramic kiln that used to run with four heating elements. One of the heating elements broke and I removed it from the circuit, connecting the three heating elements together, skipping one.
Now the wall plug that I used does not work anymore. The fuse is ok, the ceiling light is ok, just the wall plug died.
Is it because it became too hot? Am I just being unlucky, or am I putting too much pressure on the Ampage?
