The following sentence is taken from a British newspaper:

Statistics revealed Britain has the worst economic output since 1980, sparking fears of a deep and prolonged contraction.

My question is this:

Why is it "Britain has the worst economic output since 1980" and not "Britain has had the worst economic output since 1980" ?

Because it is discussing Britain's present output, and thus the present tense is the correct one to use. 'My wife had green hair' and 'my wife has had green hair' have different meanings.
