What is the one word (or even the top 10 words) that when entered into a Google search will return the greatest number of hits?

In my efforts I have found the the word 'time' to return the largest number (816,000,000 hits), followed (perhaps without great surprise) by the word 'sex' (339,000,000 hits). Are there other words that beat these (maybe thier not even english words - Chinese maybe?)

I put in the word "a", and got "about 8,000,000,000". Laughing

Strangely enough, "the" gets the same number, kicky. I'm wondering if that might be their limit.

You are both right about the words 'a' and 'the' maxing out at eight billion. That alone is an insteresting fact (albeit rather trivial overall). However, perhaps I should refrase the question as "what one word (excluding articles and conjuctions, and other such filler words, etc) would return the greatest number of hits (under 8 billion)?

The total results count is notoriously inaccurate, so don't expect any precision.

To give an example, Google recently countered MSN's beta search engine with the announcement of their index nearly doubling.

Searches for "the" returned 11 billion pages, well over the 8,058,044,651 they claim to search on their home page but this was corrected after search engine watchdogs noted it.

The homepage text is not dynamic, and thusly not accurate. The total results number is dynamic, but is not accurate either.

Thanks for looking but it seems no one can beat "time" with 816,000,000 hits (exluding conjuntions and articles and other connecting words).
