Should I use "of" or "from" in the question below?

Do you have any news OF / FROM John?

If both are possible, do they mean the same thing?

Thank you.

Paok, do you have no conception at all of the potential differences in many of your questions? You are asking very good questions, ones that indicate a fairly to very high level of understanding of English.

You should try to state your own ideas as to the difference in nuance for these comparisons you post. And remember - THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT - CONTEXT MEANS EVERYTHING WHEN WE MAKE THESE SMALL WORD CHOICES!!!!

Fairly obvious... news of John is news about John; news from John is news originating from John.

News of John: John is dead. News from John: he says he is painting the shed.

I suspect he may be a robot, or autistic.

This is ignorance above and beyond your usual ignorance, centrox. Paok is a second language learner. You get much wrong, spectacularly so, and it is your own ******* language, ... I think.

Nuances are not "fairly obvious". Even native speakers miss a lot.
