If the following two sentences are both correct, is there a difference in meaning between them?

1) Microsoft is A world leader in software design.

2) Microsoft is THE world leader in software design.

Yes, there is a difference between the meanings of the two sentences.

They could both be correct - in different contexts.

1) Microsoft is one of the world leaders in software design, implying that there is more than one

2) Microsoft is the one and only world leader in software design
