Which of the following sentences should I use?
1) Galileo proved that the earth GOES around the sun.
2) Galileo proved that the earth WENT around the sun.
Thank you.
Either is OK, but I would use "goes" because it's not like the earth used to orbit the sun, but doesn't anymore.
It's implied that it "went" (past tense) around the sun back when Galilieo is supposed to have proved it, too, so there is no need to indicate a past tense.
