Not the she is killing me part, but the filled square.

This is what I see, a round thing, not a filled square. A yellow circular "face", with a lopsided downturned mouth. These things are what people have nowadays instead of emotions. Brave new world.

@centrox,
no, at least for me and others - it's some sort of, uh, boring square.

The one you showed looks like a regular sort of emoticon.

Maybe there are international emoticon boundaries.. what a thought!

@ossobucotemp,
You have an old Mac. Maybe the emoticon is not coming through-I know symbols don't come through on older Macs sometimes.

It means you have just discovered the world of hipster language. Punctuating a comment with a little picture to sum up your emotional escalation point.

@Krumple,
Using emojis has absolutely nothing to do with being a "hipster". Emojis have been in use for a loooooooong time.

You may need Mac OS X 10.11.1 (El Capitan) or later on your Mac to see the new emojis.

@Blickers,
Others, starting with ehBeth, recognize the emoji in my opening post. So far, only Centrox sees something else, that regular type round emoticon.. and probably Centrox was teasing me with that.

@centrox,
I'm the one who sees the emoji....
I just wanted to know want it means. I've been seeing it off and on on some posts for at least a year or two.

Let me be clear. I wasn't doing any teasing. What I posted is what I saw, using Google Chrome Version 59.0.3071.115 (Official Build) (64-bit) on Windows 10.

It's your web browser that determines how emojis are rendered.

The same emoticon, or emoji or whatever it is, in that first post, viewed on different browsers/platforms... Note: the differing sizes are because I was hasty doing the screen snips.

It could look like any of these or more. Your browser decides how to show an emoji. It will have a set of images installed. Not all sets are the same.

I understand that is what you see, centrox.

So I'm the only one here who sees it as a small square with letters in it?

Hmm, maybe I should learn to treasure it as special.

@ossobucotemp,
adds, I easily see the emoticons you are showing me in your posts.
Just not in my opening post, and apparently not in ehBeth's as she didn't argue with me that it was a small square.
I use firefox, rarely if ever use an emoticon or emoji myself.
