@centrox,
Yes, that's it! Well, more of a square, but close enough to what I am seeing on that original person's post (that I copied to talk about this).

I think that means that the character needed to show that emoticon is not available in any font installed on your computer. If your machine is a Mac you may need to update the OS.

It's a joke, calm down.

Yes. A long time.

I think this one is 1000 years old

Movie advertisement from 1953 (as gay as its hit tune! So true!)

After around 1963 they really took off...

That smiley-crying one says all you need to know about the movie, doesn't it? (Does anyone really cry at movies?)

@centrox,
Thanks a lot for clearing it up, good work, no kidding. I was quite confused, then started to call that square an emoji... which was more confusing.

No OS updating for me; Apple cut a lot of us off about six years ago, ex-ing out a variety of available applications over time (bye! so long!) and I can't spring for a new or recent used mac. That's possible in the future though.
Besides, I've had my own odd fun keeping an antique mac working at all.

Good a2k folks have suggested relatively inexpensive microsoft type computers, which I worked with in the distant past, but I'm not interested in relearning that system, and while they are less expensive than macs, I can't afford them either.

All is not lost as I have stuff to sell, just have to figure how to do it (long story I won't go into).

The difference between Mac and windows is very little. A mild interface difference. A few button function differences and shortcut hotkey differences. That's about it. It's definitely not a major undertaking to swap from Mac to PC.

@Krumple,
True, and the days of Mac OS vs DOS are long gone. If most of what she does is surf the net and deal with a few pics, the switch is easy.

@ossobucotemp,
Maybe I'll give up one of these days, after which I'll become a serious pest. I still can't afford it.

I take it some a2kers are spoiled re money access.

But I get it now, thanks to a good explanation by centrox, unless, gawd forbid, centrox is wrong.

It's not the OS, it's the browser. Within Windows 10, different browsers show different representations, as I have shown. Also with different browsers in Linux.
