It would be harder to name professions that don't use pi.

Rich man, poor man, beggar man, thief,
Doctor, lawyer, Indian Chief--they all use pi.

Contractors: when trying to estimate how much wire is left on a roll.
C=piD. Count the number of winds, measure the average diameter, multiply Voila, a measurement that is pretty accurate.

Neat Pi Fact
Here's an interesting PI factoid. Everyone knows about 22/7 as an approximation for PI, but the Chinese came up with 355/113 which is MUCH more accurate.

By act of legislation Indiana says that Pi=22/7.

However; the bible says {1 Kings 7:23} "He [Solomon] made the Sea of cast metal, circular in shape, measuring ten cubits from rim to rim and five cubits high. It took a line of thirty cubits to measure around it."

So 3 it is! Get right wit it, yer heathern Hoosiers..

My copy says "Huram made a round tank of bronze 7.5 ft deep, 15 feet in diameter and 45 feet in circumference.." but i suppose the general point is the same.

P.S. it just occured to me that McDonalds never uses fat actors in their commercials. Interesting...

Edit: P.P.S.: I forgot the proof process for the circumference of a circle. Would anyone care to refresh my memory?

i had to use pi while laying carpet once and sat in my van doing the math and marveling about how i had been forced to use pi... FOR carpetlaying!!! Layed carpets for fourteen years before i needed it, but when i did, i sure was happy i had learned it.

Pi shows up in the equations of just about every branch of physical science, including formulas that are not in any obvious way connected with circles.
