I am driving at an intersection, just took a left hand turn and suddenly I hear a horn blaring. My heart beats like crazy and I look around with no other car near me. I realize it came from the radio. Damn nearly got in accident to avoid a non-existent potential accident - imaging explaining that to a police officer.

Another time I am driving and there is a particular song that has background music that sounds close to a police siren. Again heart attack - no I wasn't speeding (at least not fast enough to warrant being stopped). Damn that song got me again.

Anyone else have this sort of panic? Maybe I should drive without the radio.

@Linkat,
the Amber Alert noise has scared the crap out of me a few times. They use the same alert for weather (tornadoes etc) and new car radios now broadcast those automatically even if you had the radio off. That would scare me even more. I don't need that happening while I'm driving. No sound and then oogaboogaoogabahooooooga

Back in the day when I was driving my ‘36 GMC Pick-up truck, I nearly had a heart attack when it came over the radio that the Martians had landed and New Jersey State Militia had declared martial law!

It weren’t until a whiles later that the announcer Dan Seymour:

"You are listening to a CBS presentation of Orson Welles and the Mercury Theatre of the Air, in an original dramatization of The War of the Worlds by H. G. Wells. The performance will continue after a brief intermission."

However the news came to late for Martha… she was pregnant again.

@Linkat,
Those damn horns have startled the crap out of me. I really wish they wouldn't allow advertisers to use that sound effect. The other thing that frosts my cupcakes are those damn screeching tires sounds or the sounds of sudden impact.

That's done me in a few times as well. Once the thing blasted to tell me of a tornado warning half across the country!

The world is out to get us by scary sounds and sights!

Ok great - I was thinking this might be a sign of old age. Glad other people think the same thing......well maybe not - we are all apt to panic and who knows what accident could result.

I was walking home a few nights ago, and I heard the sound of screeching tires and that hollow sound of sheet metal folding up. But it warn't no radio, it was real life. I picked up the pace and got home minutes later. I didn't want to know.

Very late in the night, my brother and I were driving between cities, listening to a radio that was barely functional. It went silent a few times. One drawn out silence made us completely unaware of it at all. Suddenly a woman's voice began to wail, loudly, because we liked our radio loud. We both jumped before realizing we were hearing the Burl Ives record of The Long Black Veil. I can't say we were frightened but it was a hell of an experience.

Only twice:

The first time was when NPR reported that, based on early exit polling, it looked like Kerry would beat W.

The second was when NPR reported the same thing relative to Clinton beating Trump.

In both cases it ruined my early evening drives home, and when I entered the house, I was drenched in cold sweat.

@Finn dAbuzz,
Thank your God in Heaven that it wasn't true. Things are going so well, you must be pinching yourself.
