This poem was writen by a Germaine Williams , do any of you like it?
Can someone explain the meaning of it for me please?
Thanks in advance
Quote:

Out of the Umbilicus Mundi / this is lyrical lunacy //
From a human being to speak so fluently //
Bars of poetry without precedence //
Complete par excellence / read to the Leviticus testament //
To understand me you need help //
You gotta see the film 'The Day After Trinity' written by Jon Else //
To understand that you must know thyself //

To find the answers that we didn't know //
Maybe Edgar Allen Poe's / description of El Dorado / is not so //
See the reason there is no light at the end of the tunnel //
'Cause we really not in a tunnel / we're trapped in a bubble //
With government hierarchy / and the dreads of society //
Can you explain why you believe hell is fiery? //
We suffering from symptoms of drapetomania //
Slavery isn't over / it just took a new alias //
The data repository / established for the maintenance //
Almost turned me into an atheist / scared of aliens //
Why write lyrics when I can make a better living //
Selling freeze-dried venom / to wildlife clinics //
'Cause I hate the thought of being a predictable bore //
Once you get used to me / you won't love me no more //
The final soliloquy of the internal paramour //
What are we all to do when music is gone? //
I hope god and the imagination are one //
A golden tongue / can achieve synchronicity with the sun //
Transcended beyond the flesh and the blood //
' Cause this is level one / after this album / my message is done //

Out of the Umbilicus Mundi / this is lyrical lunacy //
From a human being to speak so fluently //
Bars of poetry without precedence //
Complete par excellence /read to the Leviticus testament //
To understand me you need help //
You gotta see the film 'The Day After Trinity' written by Jon Else //
To understand that you must know thyself //

You can't battle me / so you rather embarrass me //
I maintain dignity / in the face of calamity //
They reach out they hand at me / and talk dishonestly //
But I read through there syntactic structure like Noam Chomsky //
A student so overzealous I motivate my trainers //
I'd rather get some now / then get some later //
Take a break from writing rhymes on paper //
Recondition my character //
Change my nature with seven days of Vipassana //
Let go of the stress / man I was deeply depressed //
So famished in fact I needed a rest //
To regenerate my mind / bless the cornerstone of my rhyme //
With corn oil and wine / then see the light an illuminous paradigm //
It became more apparent with time / all I had to do was follow the signs //
To be a better man I need help //
I just gotta find a link between my inner deity and myself //

Hey, Joe. Welcome to A2K. I had never heard of Germaine Williams, so I looked him up. He's a rapper, so that explains the stream of consciousness approach.

Obviously, he's alluding to the Bible; Atomic testing; Poe's "the city of gold" and the umbilical "chord" that plays his song.

And overall, his disgust with poetry. Odd, no?

Thank you Letty for the reply.
I refrained from mentioning the author's profession, for I feared the poem would not be taken seriously and I would never get an analysis of the text. I have been pondering over the meaning of the poem for eons now, patricianly the part where the author says "I just gotta find a link between my inner deity and myself"

i think i can explain the part you mentioned "I just gotta find a link between my inner deity and myself",

you see, canibus has a HUGE underground fan base and is often reffered to as being a sort of.....hip/hop "god", your probably familiar with the way the term is used in the hip/hop culture, i guess canibus is basically saying that somtimes he cant cope with all the stress of being looked at as this...
"god"/"diety", so you C....he's trying to express his sense of self......he needs to "keep himself in check", "hes needs to look beyond all they hype, and remind himself that he is infact just another person........or at least thats my translation...........i hope i helped....

and I don't think it's "the data repository established for the maintenance" I think he says "the Data Repository Establishment And Maintenance" aka a DREAM, "almost turned me into an atheist scared of aliens. I was wondering who else noticed that, I thought it kinda nice.

Inner Deity and Myself
No prob bro, only putting in my two cents is all. And I find everyone's take on this song to be quite deep. We can all learn from each other. M-Sea-Cresy is my favorite Canibus work which is why I take so much interest in it. It's very profound, he's not just tossing big words around.

My take on Canibus saying "to be a better man I need help/I just gotta find the link between my inner deity and myself." is that canibus seems to be familiar with eastern thought and philosophy and that he might be referencing to what Sri Chinmoy said in Chinmoy's The Oneness of the Eastern Heart and the Western Mind. This is what Chinmoy says about the "Inner Deity" aka the "Inner Voice":

Referencing to Rousseau: "Conscience is the voice of the soul, as passion is the voice of the body. No wonder they often contradict each other."

(Hence past references to contradictions between bis and rip ala "Bis vs. Rip" and "Falster Ego")

" Conscience and passion need not contradict each other if man aspires to offer his heart's light to his passion and his heart's surrender to his conscience. In this way, he can easily transcend this apparently irreconcilable contradiction. Once man has transcended all contradiction, he can powerfully sing. . . The Inner Voice is the Temple within us. The Inner Voice is the Deity within us. The Inner Voice is the divine Duty within us. The Inner Voice is the supreme Necessity within us."

Also referencing to Rousseau says something quite striking: "Conscience is the voice of the soul, as passion is the voice of the body. No wonder they often contradict each other."

Canibus's passion for being the illest emcee (Rip) vs. his conscious aka . who he really is (Germaine Williams). His inner deity and himself. Quite amazing.
