The Hive Mind of Humanity?

The human hive mind

As an engineer constructing a huge power station over here in South Africa, I often thought if some galactic intelligence hovered above, it would think that some sort of a hive mind was making these little creatures we call humans work together as if they were being driven by some unseen intelligent source

We can observe the same thing if we watch ants constructing a huge ant-heap. Are they driven by a telepathic hive mind that combines make them as intelligent as us, or is it just an illusion and mindless direction by instinct above.
