Definite article confusion

Why do we put articles in title or headings?

What difference would it make to add the articles in "A bag of cookies" and "The bag of cookies"?

Another example:

The affection distorts the perception.

Shouldn't it be "affection distorts perception" because it's headlinese?

Why do we see an inclusion of articles in headlinese?

@adnangull,
"A bag" could be any bag, not specific.

"The bag" is a specific bag.

In your other example, "The affection" implies that there is a specific affection. Just saying "affection distorts perception" implies that any, non-electric affection distorts perception.

If you think about it, you will understand why 'the' is called the 'definite' article.
