An American careworker who found the disabled woman he was looking after dead in her home placed her in a freezer for a week.

Police captain Bruce Roberts said: "His underlying motivation, at least what he told us, was he wanted to preserve her dignity. It's unique and unusual, but at this point, there is nothing criminal."

Detectives in Spokane, Washington, could not remove the body, which was frozen solid, and instead had to remove the entire freezer.
