A different kind of tears of rage:

The Waterboys
Red Army Blues

When I left my home and my family
My mother said to me
Son, its not how many germans you kill that counts
Its how many people you set free

So I packed my bags
Brushed my cap
Walked out into the world
Seventeen years old
Never kissed a girl

Took the train to voronezh
That was as far as it would go
Changed my sacks for a uniform
Bit my lip against the snow
I prayed for mother russia
In the summer of 43
And as we drove the germans back
I really believed
That God was listening to me

We howled into berlin
Tore the smoking buildings down
Raised the red flag high
Burnt the reichstag brown
I saw my first american
And he looked a lot like me
He had the same kinda farmers face
Said hed come from some place called hazzard, tennessee

Then the war was over
My discharge papers came
Me and twenty hundred others
Went to stettiner for the train
Kiev! said the commissar
From there your own way home
But I never got to kiev
We never came by home
Train went north to the taiga
We were stripped and marched in file
Up the great siberian road
For miles and miles and miles and miles
Dressed in stripes and tatters
In a gulag left to die
All because comrade stalin was scared that
Wed become too westernized!

Used to love my country
Used to be so young
Used to believe that life was
The best song ever sung
I would have died for my country
In 1945

But now only one thing remains
But now only one thing remains
But now only one thing remains
But now only one thing remains
The brute will to survive

probably posted these before, but george on the news tonight saying, stay the course, if your not with us your against us blah blah blah etc etc etc has got me good and riled up

Between The Wars
Bilyy Bragg

I was a miner
I was a docker
I was a railway man
Between the wars
I raised a family
In times of austerity
With sweat at the foundry
Between the wars

I paid the union and as times got harder
I looked to the government to help the working man
And they brought prosperity down at the armoury
We're arming for peace, me boys
Between the wars

I kept the faith and I kept voting
Not for the iron fist but for the helping hand
For theirs is a land with a wall around it
And mine is a faith in my fellow man
Theirs is a land of hope and glory
Mine is the green field and the factory floor
Theirs are the skies all dark with bombers
And mine is the peace we know
Between the wars

Call up the craftsmen
Bring me the draftsmen
Build me a path from cradle to grave
And I'll give my consent
To any government
That does not deny a man a living wage

Go find the young men never to fight again
Bring up the banners from the days gone by
Sweet moderation
Heart of this nation
Desert us not, we are
Between the wars

The Home Front
Billy Bragg

Father mows the lawn and Mother peels the potatoes
Grandma lays the table alone
And adjusts a photograph of the unknown soldier
In this Holy of Holies, the Home
And from the TV an unwatched voice
Suggests the answer is to plant more trees
The scrawl on the wall says what about the workers
And the voice of the people says more salt please

Mother shakes her head and reads aloud from the newspaper
As Father puts another lock on the door
And reflects upon the violent times that we are living in
While chatting with the wife beater next door
If paradise to you is cheap beer and overtime
Home truths are easily missed
Something that every football fan knows
It only takes five fingers to form a fist

And when it rains here it rains so hard
But never hard enough to wash away the sorrow
I'll trade my love today for a greater love tomorrow
The lonely child looks out and dreams of independence
From this family life sentence

Mother sees but does not read the peeling posters
And can't believe that there's a world to be won
But in the public schools and in the public houses
The Battle of Britain goes on
The constant promise of jam tomorrow
Is the New Breed's litany and verse
If it takes another war to fill the churches of England
Then the world the meek inherit, what will it be worth

Mother fights the tears and Father, his sense of outrage
And attempts to justify the sacrifice
To pass their creed down to another generation
'Anything for the quiet life'
In the Land of a Thousand Doses
Where nostalgia is the opium of the age
Our place in History is as
clock watchers, old timers, window shoppers

Father mows the lawn and Mother peels the potatoes
Grandma lays the table alone
And adjusts a photograph of the unknown soldier
(to fade)

Rumours Of War
Billy Bragg

There are soldiers marching on the common today
They were there again this evening
They paced up and down like sea birds on the ground
Before the storm clouds gathering

I must buy whatever tinned food is left on the shelves
They are testing the air raid sirens
They've filled up the blood banks and emptied the beds
At the hospital and he asylum

I saw a man build a shelter in his garden today
And we stood there idly chatting
He said: "No, no I don't think war will come"
Yet still he carried on digging

Everything in my life that I love
Could be swept away without warning
Yet the birds still sing and the church bells ring
And the sun came up this morning

Life goes on as it did before
As the country drifts slowly to war

The Marching Song Of The Covert Battalions
Billy Bragg

Here we are, seeking out the Reds
Trying to keep the communists in order
Just remember when you're sleeping in your beds
They're only two days drive from the Texas border

How can a country large as ours
Be scared of such a threat
Well if they won't work for us
They're against us you can bet
They may be sovereign countries
But you folks at home forget
That they all want what we've got
But they don't know it yet

We're making the world safe for capitalism

Here we come with our candy and our guns
And our corporate muscle marches in behind us
For freedom's just another world for nothing left to sell
And if you want narcotics we can get you those as well

We help the multi-nationals
When they cry out protect us
The locals scream and shout a bit
But we don't let that affect us
We're here to lend a helping hand
In case they don't elect us
How dare they buy our products
Yet still they don't respect us

We're making the world safe for capitalism

If you thought the army
Was here protecting people like yourself
I've some news for you
We're here to defend wealth
Away with nuns and bishops
The Good Lord will help those that help themselves
I've some news for you
We're here to defend wealth

We're making the world safe for capitalism

Do the Evolution
Written and Performed by Pearl Jam

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm ahead, I'm a man
I'm the first mammal to wear pants, yeah
I'm at peace with my lust
I can kill 'cause in God I trust, yeah
It's evolution, baby
I'm at peace, I'm the man
Buying stocks on the day of the crash
On the loose, I'm a truck
All the rolling hills, I'll flatten' em out, yeah
It's herd behavior, uh huh
It's evolution, baby
Admire me, admire my home
Admire my song, here's my coat
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
This land is mine, this land is free
I'll do what I want but irresponsibly
It's evolution, baby
I'm a thief, I'm a liar
There's my church, I sing in the choir
Admire me, admire my home
Admire my song, admire my clothes
'Cause we know, appetite for a nightly feast
Those ignorant Indians got nothin' on me
Nothin', why?
Because, it's evolution, baby!
I am ahead, I am advanced
I am the first mammal to make plans, yeah
I crawled the earth, but now I'm higher
Twenty-ten, watch it go to fire
It's evolution, baby {2X}
Do the evolution
Come on, come on, come on

Proudest Monkey

Written and Performed by Dave Matthews Band

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Swinging in this tree
Oh I am bounce around so well
Branch to branch,
limb to limb you see
All in a day's dream
I'm stuck
Like the other monkeys here
I am a humble monkey
Sitting up in here again
But then came the day
I climbed out of these safe limbs
Ventured away
Walking tall, head high up and singing
I went to the city
Car horns, corners and the gritty
Now I am the proudest monkey you've ever seen
Monkey see, monkey do

Then comes the day
Staring at myself I turn to question me
I wonder do I want the simple, simple life that I once lived in well
Oh things were quiet then
In a way they were the better days
But now I am the proudest monkey you've ever seen
Monkey see, monkey do
Monkey see, monkey do

Scarecrow People
xtc

Hope you enjoyed your flight in one of our new straw aeroplanes, you'll find things here are just like what you're used to. There's lots of waste and razor wire and no one gives a damn about the land, we just stand around and stare like you folks do.

For we ain't got no brains and we ain't got no hearts, it's just that wild old wind that tears us all apart. We're the scarecrow people, have we got lots in common with you. And if you don't start living well, you're all gonna wind up scarecrow people too.

Hope you enjoyed your meal it's only gas and chemicals, we thought that you'd prefer something not nature made. Now while you're here, can you advise us on a war we'd like to start, against some scarecrows over there, a different shade?

For we ain't got no brains and we ain't got no hearts, it's just that wild old wind that tears us all apart. We're the scarecrow people, have we got lots in common with you. And if you don't start living well, you're all gonna wind up scarecrow people too.

We don't have no tears here, no one hopes or cares or fears here, for the old, the sick, the poor and them what taint you. We thought we'd base our civilization upon yours, 'cause you're the smartest animals on earth, now ain't you?

We don't have no love here, there's no need to rise above here, no one wants to write a book or try to paint thee. We thought we'd base our civilization upon yours, 'cause we're all dead from our necks up, now ain't we?

And we ain't got no brains and we ain't got no hearts, it's just that wild old wind that tears us all apart. We're the scarecrow people, have we got lots in common with you. And if you don't start living well, you're all gonna wind up scarecrow people too.

And I ain't got no brains and I ain't got no heart, it's just them other humans tear my soul apart. I'm a scarecrow person, have I got quite some message for you. For if we don't start learning well, we're all gonna wind up scarecrow people too!

Dear God
xtc

Dear God,
hope you got the letter, and...
I pray you can make it better down here.
I don't mean a big reduction in the price of beer
but all the people that you made in your image, see
them starving on their feet 'cause they don't get
enough to eat from God, I can't believe in you

Dear God, sorry to disturb you, but... I feel that I should be heard
loud and clear. We all need a big reduction in amount of tears
and all the people that you made in your image, see them fighting
in the street 'cause they can't make opinions meet about God,
I can't believe in you

Did you make disease, and the diamond blue? Did you make
mankind after we made you? And the devil too!

Dear God, don't know if you noticed, but... your name is on
a lot of quotes in this book, and us crazy humans wrote it, you
should take a look, and all the people that you made in your
image still believing that junk is true. Well I know it ain't, and
so do you, dear God, I can't believe in I don't believe in

I won't believe in heaven and hell. No saints, no sinners, no
devil as well. No pearly gates, no thorny crown. You're always
letting us humans down. The wars you bring, the babes you
drown. Those lost at sea and never found, and it's the same the
whole world 'round. The hurt I see helps to compound that
Father, Son and Holy Ghost is just somebody's unholy hoax,
and if you're up there you'd perceive that my heart's here upon
my sleeve. If there's one thing I don't believe in

it's you... Dear God.

Neurotica
Written by Neil Peart
Performed by Rush

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You just don't get it

What it is ... well, you're not really sure

You move like you're walking on this ice

Talking like you're still insecure

Time is a spiral -- Space is a curve

I know you get dizzy, but try not to lose your nerve

Life is a diamond you turn into dust

Waiting for rescue, And I know you just

Don't get it

You just don't get it

Neurotica -- Exotica

It's just Erotica -- Hypnotica

It's just Psychotica -- Chaotica

It's just Exotica -- Neurotica

You just don't get it

Baby don't you ask yourself why?

If you don't like the answer -- forget it

You know I hate to see you cry

Fortune is random -- Fate shoots from the hip

I know you get crazy, but try not to lose your grip

Life is a diamond you turn into dust

Looking for trust, and I know that you just

Don't get it

You just don't get it

SNAP!

Hide in your shell, let the world go to hell

It's like Russian roulette to you

SNAP!

Sweat running cold, you can't face growing old

It's a personal threat to you

SNAP!

The world is a cage for your impotent rage

But don't let it get to you

SNAP!

Bullet With Butterfly Wings - Smashing Pumpkins

The world is a vampire, sent to drain
Secret destroyers, hold you up to the flames
And what do I get for my pain?
Betrayed desires, and a piece of the game

(chorus)
Even though I know - I suppose Ill show
All my cool and cold-like old job
Despite all my rage Im still just a rat in a cage (2x)
Then someone will say what is lost can never be saved
Despite all my rage Im still just a rat in a cage

Now Im naked, nothing but an animal
But can you fake it, for just one more show?
And what do you want, I want to change
And what have you got when you feel the same

(chorus)

(chorus 2)
Tell me Im the only one
Tell me theres no other one
Jesus was an only son
Tell me Im the chosen one
Jesus was an only son for you

(chorus)
(chorus 2)

Despite all my rage Im still just a rat in a cage
Then someone will say what is lost can never be saved
Despite all my rage Im still just a rat in a cage
And I still believe that I cannot be saved

God Is A Bullet - Concrete Blonde

Theres a green plaid jacket on the back of the chair
Its like a moment frozen forever there

Mom and dad had a lot of big plans for their little man
...so proud.
Mamas gone crazy cause her babys shot down
By some teenage car chase war out of bounds
It was the wrong place wrong time wrong end of a gun.

Shoot straight from the hip
Gone forever in a trigger slip
You know, it could have been
It could have been your brother.
Shoot straight shoot to kill
Blame each other, blame yourselves
God is a bullet have mercy on us everyone

Theyre gonna call me sir theyll all stop picking on me
Well Im a high school grad Im over 5 foot 3
Ill get a badge and a gun and Ill join the p.d.
Theyll see
He didnt have to use the gun they put in his hand
But when the guy came at him, well he panicked and ran
And its thirty long years before they give him another chance
And its sad sad sad

John lennon, doctor king, harvey milk
All for goddamn nothing
God is a bullet have mercy on us everyone

Pass it Along/WWW dot
Written and Performed by Chumbawumba

Send this song to twenty people
Add your name, don't break the cycle
Pass it along by word of mouse
Save the world, don't leave the house
Because a virtual office in a virtual home
Means you never have to drive through the wrong part of town
Pass it along by word of mouse
Save the world, don't leave the house
So here's your final resting place
Your heaven is protected by security gates
Shut out the world, it's getting worse
Save yourself, don't leave the house
Because a happy future is a thing of the past
And there's always another repeat
Where do you want to go today?
Somewhere you could never take me
With a W and a W and a W dot
Ooh Mr. Murdoch, can I show you around?
A new religion
No beat, no rhythm
Just Wal-Mart wall to wall
A Kodak baby in the land of plenty
Honey I blew up the world!
With a W and a W and a W dot

Choose Life
PF Project / Ewan McGregor

Choose life.
Choose a job.
Choose a career.
Choose a family,
Choose a ******* big television
Choose washing machines, cars, compact disc players, and electrical tin openers.
Choose good health, low cholesterol and dental insurance.
Choose fixed-interest mortgage repayments.
Choose a starter home.
Choose your friends.
Choose leisure wear and matching luggage.
Choose a three piece suite on hire purchase in a range of ******* fabrics.
Choose DIY and wondering who you are on a Sunday morning.
Choose sitting on that couch watching mind-numbing sprit-crushing ga me shows stuffing ******* junk food into your mouth.
Choose rotting away at the end of it all, pissing your last in a miserable home
Nothing more than an embarrassment to the selfish, fucked-up brats
You have spawned to replace yourself.
Choose your future. Choose life.

not exactly teary or ragey, but hingehead's tune made me think of this one

What Do You Want From Life?
The Tubes

What do you want from life
To kidnap an heiress
or threaten her with a knife
What do you want from life
To get cable TV
and watch it every night

There you sit
a lump in your chair
Where do you sleep
and what do you wear
when you're sleeping

What do you want from life
An Indian guru
to show you the inner light
What do you want from life
a meaningless love affair
with a girl that you met tonight

How can you tell when you're doin' alright
Does your bank account swell
While you're dreaming at night
How do know when you're really in love
Do violins play when you're touching the one
That you're loving

What do you want from life
Someone to love
and somebody that you can trust
What do you want from life
To try and be happy
while you do the nasty things
you must

(spoken in game show announcer voice)
Well, you can't have that, but if you're an American citizen you are entitled to:
a heated kidney shaped pool,
a microwave oven--don't watch the food cook,
a Dyna-Gym--I'll personally demonstrate it in the privacy of your own home,
a kingsize Titanic unsinkable Molly Brown waterbed with polybendum,
a foolproof plan and an airtight alibi,
real simulated Indian jewelry,
a Gucci shoetree,
a year's supply of antibiotics,
a personally autographed picture of Randy Mantooth
and Bob Dylan's new unlisted phone number,
a beautifully restored 3rd Reich swizzle stick,
Rosemary's baby,
a dream date in kneepads with Paul Williams,
a new Matador,
a new mastadon,
a Maverick,
a Mustang,
a Montego,
a Merc Montclair,
a Mark IV,
a meteor,
a Mercedes,
an MG,
or a Malibu,
a Mort Moriarty,
a Maserati,
a Mac truck,
a Mazda,
a new Monza,
or a moped,
a Winnebago--Hell, a herd of Winnebago's we're giving 'em away,
or how about a McCulloch chainsaw,
a Las Vegas wedding,
a Mexican divorce,
a solid gold Kama Sutra coffee pot,
or a baby's arm holding an apple?
