I need help in analyzing "The Lady of Shalott as an allegory

I have to analyze "The Lady of Shalott" as an allegory representing the poet's role in society during the Victorian period.

Does anyone have a clue, what ways does Tennyson address the allegory in this poem?

Help please, I usually have no problem with analyzing poetry, but this one has me stumped.
