Thank you. You are right. I read the wikipedia article (see below) before writing my Posting. However, I don't understand how a Ph.D. these could make him a physician.


In 1935, Mengele earned a PhD in anthropology from the University of Munich.[7] In January 1937, at the Institute for Hereditary Biology and Racial Hygiene in Frankfurt, he became the assistant to Dr. Otmar Freiherr von Verschuer, a scientist conducting genetics research, with a particular interest in twins.[7] As an assistant to von Verschuer, Mengele focused on the genetic factors resulting in a cleft lip and palate or cleft chin.[10] His thesis on the subject earned him a cum laude doctorate in medicine in 1938.[11]

It could not, and did not make him a physician. He studied medicine after getting his Ph.D.

1935 - Mengele earns a PhD in anthropology.

1935 - Mengele enrols to study medicine at the University of Frankfurt am Main. He concentrates on physical anthropology and genetics.

1936 - Mengele passes his state medical examination. He begins working at the university medical clinic in Leipzig.

1938 - He obtains his medical degree.
