I think i know the answer, but i dont get it.... show your work plz

The average age of a group of teachers and students is 20. The average age of the teachers is 35, and the average age of students is 15. What is the ratio of teachers to students? Express your answer as a common fraction.

i think it is 3/7, but my bro did the work, and it was flipped, so im sure that it was right... lol Smile

Let r be the ratio of the number of teachers and that of students, then,

20 = (35r + 15)/(r + 1) (figure this)

and hence,

r = 7/3.

I don't think so. 1/4 of that group is teachers, so the ratio is 3/1.

(35T + 15S) / (T + S) = 20
35T + 15S = 20T + 20S
15T = 5S
T/S = 5/15 = 1/3
