Taping a lecture

I need to tape (audio) a lecture, but when I went to Tweeter they said no one makes tape recorders any more; it's all done on minidiscs.

a) Is this true?

b) If not, what make of tape recorder do people recommend?

I don't need something fancy, just something that will record speech clearly.
