Clumsy German robbers flee after gun bungle

BERLIN (Reuters) - Two clumsy German thieves bungled their bank robbery after one dropped his gun which fell apart when it hit the floor and a customer shouted "it's a fake," prompting them to flee the scene empty handed.


"The thieves were presumably concerned by the remarks from the customer and ran out of the bank," a police spokesman in the western town of Wuppertal said on Wednesday. The masked robber scooped up the broken gun before running off.


"On their way out of the bank they dropped another gun," the police spokesman said. The gun left behind was real enough but did not function and could not be fired.
