Way To Go
Austrian base jumper Felix Baumgartner prepares for a leap of faith into a deep cave in Croatia's Velebit National Park.
Fade To Black
Baumgartner, 34, makes a habit of freefall jumping in hazardous situations. Last year he crossed the English Channel by "floating" from a plane 30,000ft above Dover to Calais.
Mad For It
He has also leapt from the world's tallest building, Malaysia's Petronas Tower, and from the hand of the Jesus statue in Rio de Janeiro.
I'm Up Here
The jump lasted just seven-and-a-half seconds and required split-second timing to avoid disaster. He used an MP3 player to give himself precise instructions.
Made It
Small lights in the base of the cave guided him to a gentle landing. He had to wear a specially-shaped parachute that could be opened at precisely the right moment and allowed him to change direction.
Yo!
As helpers removed the parachute pack, Baumgartner was able to enjoy the moment.
Eye Of A Needle
The first look back to where he had come from shows how precise - and risky - the jump had been.
