When I open Sunday Target I'm faced with terms such as 'Vizio,' 'Smart,' 'LG,' 'Element,' 'Streaming,' 'LTE,' etc etc. Of course being a retired electronic I do know all the common ones (to me) like 'UHD,' 'TV,' 'LED,' etc; yet keep reading: I won't ask you to look 'em up but I'm just interested in how many of us langfellows are enough interested in trivia such as this as to compose a posting like this, much less read it to its conclusion

For any such, something that has always bothered me, one set is labeled 'UHD TV' while another 'LED TV'. But the first refers to its def while the other to its chemistry

Believe it or not, sume folk take stuff like this seriously. So let's hear from any, even TAATANE

Oh yes you guys, it's short for 'language fellows'

@dalehileman,
Oh yes and anyone entertaining suggestion of compulsiveness, please don't hesitate to comment. After doing this sorta thing some 18 years I am absolutely immune to TAATANE

In fact, I fold each section of the Daily Press exactly in half, then running my fingers across so as to weaken the original fold, which depends on the thickness of today's bundle

Why? Neater, makes it easier to pile up ad helps my BH thumb thru

The only thing you really have to know about TVs this year is to hold out for a UHD 4K model. I found this out a few months ago when I finally broke down and bought my first flatscreen TV.

Yes, that's right, six months ago I was still in the TV Tube age. In fact, I might still be in the TV Tube age if it wasn't for the fact that lately the picture the cable company sends to a 25 inch Tube TV is cut off at the top and bottom, so your viewing area approximates that of a 17 in Tube TV instead of a 25 inch. Also, add in the new broadcast dimensions which put much of the screen graphics in the area that the Tube TV cuts off, so when you watch a football game and glance at the score, only one team's points appear on the screen.

It was clear that the broadcast companies and the TV manufacturing companies-which, unsurprisingly, seem to be the same companies-are dead set on making Tube TV viewing absolutely unbearable, and they succeeded. I surrendered.

Having had the broadcast companies take my satisfactory 25 inch viewing area and slash it wholesale the last few years, I elected to go big this time. I looked for a size in the high forties, and got a 48" on sale. It was "2K", whatever that meant. I took it home, set it up, it looked fine.

Dropping by the store a few days later, I noticed they had 50 incher, (which for me was not effectively different from my 48 incher), in "UHD 4K". For only $50 bucks more, I figured I'd exchange the 48 incher just to get the newest tech. Knowing the ways of the electronic industry, I didn't really expect much difference. Which is why I was pleasantly surprised at seeing my first TV show, which was about human origins. The animated pre-Sapien primate was running around a brushy area, and the damn picture appeared in 3D. Couldn't take my eyes off the screen, never saw a 3D effect on the TV before.

So, in conclusion, I can only advise those who, like me, were forced into buying a new TV despite owning a perfectly functional one, to wait for a sale if you must, but by all means get the UHD 4K model. The difference in price will be small if you wait for a sale, the difference in picture quality and viewing satisfaction will be large.
