DETROIT (AP) - This groom got two hearts on his wedding day.
Hours after his nuptials on Oct. 2, Steven Dulka III was at Henry Ford Hospital for a transplant. The scramble began shortly after noon when Dulka, 51, who had inflammation of the heart, got a call from the hospital's transplant co-ordinator: There was a heart for him and he needed to come to the hospital immediately.
"Um, I'm getting married at 2 today," Dulka recalled saying.
He and bride Deidre Jacoboni, 52, quickly called the chapel to move the wedding time up by an hour, then recruited a few friends to help them alert the guests.
The ceremony came off fine, the new Mrs. Dulka said. "Even though it was short, it was really romantic, really serious, really loving, really proper," she said.
Immediately afterward, the Dulkas sped to the hospital.
"This is our honeymoon suite," Deidre Dulka told the Detroit Free Press, sweeping her arms around her husband's fifth-floor hospital room.
The groom was released Wednesday.
