Supermarket giant Asda has banned the sale of eggs to children in the run up to Halloween to curb "trick or treat" pranksters who go too far.
Staff at stores up and down the country have been told to be extra vigilant and refuse to serve under 16-year-olds who are only buying eggs. Police are inundated every year with complaints from victims, who are attacked themselves or their properties targeted.
But the company stressed children buying eggs as part of a more general shopping trip would be allowed. An Asda spokeswoman said: "We have asked our staff to be vigilant. It is obviously an issue at this time of year and there have been a number of concerns from local people so we decide to act."
