BERLIN (AFP) - After five days of warbling at a western German pub, a team of singers claimed to have broken the world's non-stop karaoke record, seeking a place in the Guinness Book of World Records.
"We broke the official best of 80 hours," organiser Wolfgang Strittmatter said Friday at a music bar in the city of Darmstadt, as the singers crooned their way past the 100-hour mark.
He said the group would reach its target of 128 hours late on Friday.
Around 20 singers began impersonating their favourite pop and rock stars at the pub on Sunday and many were still going more or less strongly Friday despite a few dropping out with hoarse throats.
"Some of them stayed overnight in camp beds so they could take over as substitutes if they were needed," Strittmatter explained.
But it could take some time for the record to be recognised. The organisers are sending 35 video cassettes to the Guinness judges for evaluation to see if the singers performed according to the rules.
