Is the Greek word for virtue grounded in manliness?

The Latin "virtus" for virtue has a relatedness to "vir" which mean man. Does the Greek word "arete" for virtue for have an origin or common origin with the word "aner" for man?

It is derived from aristos, the word for "best".
Thus arete is often translated "excellence".
