A tiny red brick shed has been sold for more than 40 times its guide price of £500 after attracting massive interest.

The former telephone exchange, which measures a compact 15.8ft (4.84m) by 9.4ft (2.88m), is situated in rural Pembrokeshire.

The slate-roofed building, which went for £21,000, stands in a small fenced area of land and boasts "magnificent coastal views", according to Bob Jones-Prytherch and Co Estate Agents.

Pembrokeshire County Council was looking for £500 for the old telephone exchange at Kilpaison on the outskirts of Angle.

But the shed, which had been featured in an issue of Channel 4's Grand Designs magazine, drew huge interest.

Around 400 people attended an auction held at the end of last month in the Haverfordwest area and the successful bidder was a local man.

An estate agent described bidding as "fantastic" and said she had never seen so much interest.

She said: "A lot of people fell in love with it. The interest was unbelievable."
