A father who wanted to name his newborn son @ has been told he will not be allowed by officials in China.
The man, from Zhengzhou, Henan province, said he wanted to name his son after the computer keyboard character used in every email address. He said the symbol symbol @ was now in common usage.
Police officials at the station where names are registered refused to allow it. They said all names, by law, must be capable of being translated into Chinese.
