What have I got to look forward to?

This weekend I rented a car and went on a drive up to New Paltz. It's about two hours north of the city. It's a SUNY college town, so I thought I'd enjoy it, since I like the feel of a college town, and I have great memories from my college days.

But instead, it made me depressed. Sure I liked the drive, and seeing the autumnal reds and golds in the trees, and I even enjoyed hanging out in the town. I went to the edge of the Wallkill River and watched the sunset. That was nice.

But the whole thing just made me feel old. I will never have that freedom and happiness that I had in college again, will I?

I'm getting close to forty years old now. What have I got to look forward to?

loose bowels, swollen prostate, loss of respect of young people, visibilty to young girls, your dreams, your hopes, social security and the hope of a secure retirement, the ability to recover quickly from drinking too much the night before, loss of muscle tone, pot belly, receding hairline, bald spot at crown, hariy back, hairy ass, I could go on but I'm sure you're feeling pretty cheered up now.

So you all seem to agree that the only thing I really have to look forward to is the slow march of death.

Great. I feel so much better now. <-------Sarcasm

I think that older men are sexy. Perhaps you can look forward to women like me appreciating your distinguished looks?

Smile Trust me, uni isn't anywhere near as much fun as you remember it. When you are there, it's all assignments and hassles from annoying people, with the occasional pub crawl, but when you leave, it's pub crawls with the occasional assignment and hassle from annoying people.

What you have to look forward to: wisdom or being able to laugh at people making the same daft mistakes you did, perhaps grandchildren, learning to accept life, possibly grandchildren, having the time to appreciate sunsets, not having other people relying on you constantly .

Smile Or so I've been informed.

Would you really want that freedom again?
Or do you like having the stability, money, and intelligence that comes with age?
Except, bear is right...
So from here on out you should do the following
1) Invest in stock. ( preferrably in a company you will be using yourself.. Ex: Depends. )
2) Stop voting republican... they will take away your social security.
3) stop voting Democratic. They wont share .
4) Find a nice young girl. Preferrably one whos skin is taught, hair is effertless and just refuses to talk back or question even yourdarkest desires. They are for sale at your local porn shop. Usually around 50 bucks.
5) WATCH JERRY SPRINGER... s.hi.t you think you have it bad? These people will remind you DAILY that you are perfect the way you are. Dont pay a shrink to do what that show can do for you!Remind yourself daily.. just turn it on.

;-)

Aaah, now the encouraging people have shown up. Thanks. I guess there might be some things in my future that don't completely suck.

Kristie,

Since I have gotten the impression from some of your posts that you are a hottie, that does make me feel better. Smile

I also went to school in upstate NY, kicky, but never went back. I knew it would bittersweet. The place was nice, but it was the people that made it wonderful (at least that's how I remember it).

But, as has been said, you can't go home again...

I can truly say that college was the best time of my life. By far.

Ahhh...but you haven't been to Italy yet! Cool

I was miserable in college. All that insecurity...financial, personal, etc.

My 30s were better...I'd figured out what I wanted to do, found the right life partner, and bought a home. But there wasn't enough money, and we were constantly going through fertility problems. (Two miscarriages.) And I lost my father in a very traumatic way.

My 40s were better still...I finally had a child, and he has turned out to be the joy of my life. My life became more stable, and we had enough money to travel to great places. Bought a bigger house, too. But I lost my mother unexpectedly (am an orphan now) and I developed some health problems.

I'm looking forward to my 50s. My older girlfriends tell me they are the best years of life for a woman.

It seems that every age has its advantages and disadvantages, kicky.

Now. When are you going to Italy? Better go before you get too many commitments, or one day you'll look up and realize you missed your chance.

Your forties are your best years...you're earning power and knowledge are peaeking, you are developing wisdom, and your body still obeys you.

At fifties you begin having "procedures" and your body starts making you work a lot harder to stay in the same shape. You can only do it 10 or 15 times a week instead of 10 or 15 times a weekend. You alo begin to forget things and your vocabulary starts deserting you at inopportune times. The tv becopmes more appealing. That's as far as I've gotten, but even in your fifties you can still do everything you ever did, your recovery time is just more painful......
