The food in Penang is cheaper than in Singapore.
The food in Penang is cheaper than that in Singapore.

@tanguatlay,

the first one sounds more natural.

or you could say, "The food in Penang is cheaper than the food in Singapore."

@tanguatlay,
They are both correct. I really like the suggestion above by tanguatlay. He is employing parallelism in the sentence which greatly aids in clarity and ease of reading.

@dalehileman,
Sorry about that. I tried to edit it later for the correct author, but was too late. LOL.

@tanguatlay,
They're both correct.

The second one is more precise.

RP's suggestion is even more precise.

At your advanced age it would do you good to write out your words completely and write in complete sentences, or at least attempt to do so. It would help stave off cognitive deterioration.

@InfraBlue,
He insistently will not do any of that, nice advice or irritated advice; I take it as he has long done the cut/words stuff.

so cute, but this routinely fucks up ESL and EFL posts and learner wonderers re english in the language threads are thrown off.

This isn't a new manifestation, years now.

I don't mind him posting on the rest of a2k, but his vaporous advice must have send many learners to skip a2k. I would like it gone.

So Oss, see if you can stimulate Management to express their reaction, and if they think I should go, then I shall go. Sorry I upset you so

@dalehileman,
I presume they put up with you.

However, your passive aggressive need to be an asshole hasn't slipped on by.
