It seems the obesity epidemic has crossed the boundaries of the developed world into the animal kingdom.
Zookeepers in Alaska are so concerned about the health of their larger residents that they are building what is believed to be the world's first elephant treadmill in hopes that its only pachyderm, Maggie, will trim down from a whopping 651st.
Discussing plans for the $200,000 dollar fitness machine, zoo director Tex Edwards said: "Elephants are just like people, they will be as lazy as they can be and still eat."
