Ronald Kordis, 54, was shot in broad daylight near New York's Union Square - and saved by the small change in his trouser pocket.
The bullet deflected off a nickel and Kordis was only slightly hurt.
However, the hospital officials safeguarding his property while he was being treated, discovered 76 bags of heroin. Kordis was arrested for possession of a controlled substance. Meanwhile, the gunman escaped.
