Atheist logic

The Hubble Deep Field includes galaxies 13 billion light years away. That light
left there 13 billion years ago. We don't know what is there at this, our, moment.
This number, 13 billion light years our little brain can't comprehend.
Since the beginning of recorded history this distance has not played a role in
the writings of what was going on.
Why do we need a god story? How many religions, how many gods, how many
interpretations, how many versions?
My question to a god person: who made god? The answer I get: "nobody made
God, he has always been".
So something has always been. My logic is that we are part of the "always been".
The big bang? I think that there is an infinity of big bangs that "big bang", expand,
go out in pieces into the sea of infinity, merge and compress again,
and big bang again.
Do you really think that somewhere up there in the master control room,
a god is sitting on the fence, not sure what to do, waiting for some prayers
to come in so he can make decisions?
Doesn't it make more sense that we are all part of infinity and we can make
our own decisions?
Pick your favorite good book. Have someone open a page at random and
put their finger on a sentence or passage, now give this info to any ten people
and have them give you their explanation. How many will be the same?
If one god: only one perfect book, perfectly explained and updated with
human progress.
That's why I'm an atheist. Worry about controlling yourself, not others.

I'm an atheist too, but I want to ask you this: why are you making such a big deal out of this?

@contrex,
It's always a big deal when you think you thought of atheism first.

Works the same way for theists too.

Right you are, always best to peruse a forum for awhile before shouting the news..

@meinfinitist,
There's no need to explain why anyone is an atheist. We all have our beliefs whether it be religion or politics. We don't need to push our belief on others; we're not going to love our family and friends less because our belief in relation or politics is different.

My early programming was catholism.
The group that promotes male superiority, sex is sinfull.
Atheism, to me, needs to be promoted so that individuals can take hold of
their own lives.
No one should force a book that you think is false upon you.
The sacred should be individual rights. Necessary force should be redefined
and discussed to make new "laws of behavior". It's only going to happen if it starts somewhere.
As an atheist I look at sin differently then the way I was first programmed.
One example is telling young children that they will burn in the fires of
hell "for eternity" if they masterbate. This is still current dogma.
Women can wash the backside of old priests, but they can't perform
the construction ritual of making of "holy flesh" and "holy blood" for the consumption by the flock.
How many will die today because of a writing in "my" good book?
I am not trying to force atheism onto any one, I just think you belong to you.

@meinfinitist,
You are just replacing one religion with another religion.

What you are promoting isn't atheism (with a lower case 'a' meaning simply a lack of belief in God). You are promoting Atheism (capital 'A') which comes with your own set of superstitions and beliefs.

There are no "laws of behavior" of any kind without religion.

@maxdancona,
Can you explain the superstitions and beliefs of Atheism?

The whole topic of theism vs atheism can be, and SHOULD be, reduced to 3 topics.

1 - Does free will make sense ?
2 - Does a mind without free will diverges much from a computing process or a rock giving up heat in a complex form ?
3 - Does the idea of beginning make sense when we refer to everything ?

The answer to all of those is no !

@Setanta,
Rather than proud, I feel freed from religious dogma.

That can't be done if by atheism you mean your oft repeated claim of 'There is no God" (regardless of wording)

By it's own admission, It is a belief based on Nothing, not evidence, not hypothesis, not even by process of elimination.

I was going to add 'not even wishful thinking' but that might not be true.

Belief in gods is based on zero evidence. Then the believers say "Prove my nothing is nothing." How about bringing in some evidence your nothing is something?

@edgarblythe,
They'll never "get it." It's their belief that they can't provide any evidence for, because it's based on FAITH, not evidence. They pray to their invisible god who ignores their prayers, and they still don't get it. Praying to their god to thank him for the food doesn't explain why more than half the world population goes hungry every day. They also pray.

Since there's no proof of a god, let's put him in the closet with the tooth fairy and Santa Claus. When there is proof of santa, we can let him out.
Now let's start a list of atheist basic rights.
To me number one is we are all equal.
Number two, to me, is we all have a right to life.
Number three, no one has a right to hurt you.
I would like people to respond in a civil way.
So many people out there are smarter then I am, I would really like to hear
your response and contributions of ideas. Just "to be cute" responses are not
what I'm looking for.

@meinfinitist,
It's not cute to ask atheists to make lists of dos and don'ts, because atheists are not a monolithic voice. Some of us are liberals, some conservatives, some like wine, others have seltzer bottles. What we are not is a group.
