I was diagnosed with depression in June of 2002 and certain parts of the year are hard for me because of the change of seasons and not enough light in the winter time. In fact, the psychiatrist wanted me to use a sun lamp. I thought about purchasing one, but I wanted to ask if anyone has ever used one before and how effective was it?
@Greglim,
Thank you so very much for answering my reply for the discussion forum post. My depression is better now that the leaves are off the trees and I know that winter is coming. I know that the trees are bare and it is getting darker earlier, but I feel much better and not depressed. When it started getting dark earlier and the leaves were off the trees, I did get very sad, but now I am getting use to it and feel happier. I am also happier that my mom is feeling better. I have been depressed about her health and worried as well. So, the fact that she is doing much better is a huge blessing.
@Greglim,
I have a very small full-spectrum light and even that helps. It's the tiniest thing, and maybe some of it is a placebo effect, but I like it and hey, if I feel it helps with SAD, then it helps.
@Greglim,
I feel much better with my depression; however I feel sadder in the winter months because it gets dark early. I probably really need the sun lamp. The sun lamp really helps bring light for people who suffer from depression and I will get it next time.
@Greglim,
My use of the sunlamp helped me a little bit. However, my trip to the Caribbean with a bikini model helped me so much more.
Thank you for responding to my reply on the discussion forum posting. I greatly appreciate all of the advice and the items; especially the sun lamp. I will have to look into the sun lamp for my depression; especially in the winter months.
@Greglim,
You first asked about the lamp in October. You have been told people have found it helpful. Your treating practitioner has recommended it.
It is now mid-January. Time to get yourself out to buy a lamp.
I am doing so much better with my depression. I have a lamp and it has helped me with bringing in more light so that I am not as depressed. I also like the fact that there is more light now and that we are approaching daylight savings time as well.
