unlike col man, i've never been middle class (mostly no class for me)
Britain's middle-class heartlands - Leeds and Glasgow
Leeds and Glasgow are the most middle-class parts of Britain, according to a new study.
The survey, The Class of 2004-5 by marketing agency The Fish Can Sing, defines class by how we spend our money.
Among the brand names which make an area middle class are Starbucks, Fresh & Wild, Pret a Manger, Toni & Guy hairdressers, a David Lloyd health club, Wetherspoons pub and Body Shop.
Glasgow's West End - which features almost every one of the stores listed by the guide - is second only to Leeds.
Next come Falmouth in Cornwall, Nottingham, Padstow in Cornwall, parts of Birmingham and East Didsbury, Manchester.
"Traditionally, the suburban zone of the UK's big conurbations was the heartland of the middle classes," a spokesman for the guide said.
"But now the whole idea of a difference between urban and suburban is wearing away. The suburban lot want some excitement and pizzazz too."
