4179 Toutatis: How close will it come?

The latest information is that Toutatis will pass within 0.0104 AU's of Earth.

It is also thought that Toutatis will best be seen from the southern hemisphere.

Although it is very unlikely to hit Earth, the motion of Toutatis's rotation makes it somewhat interesting.

So, my question for all the astronomy buffs out there: Will Toutatis be visible from the US? And if Toutatis does have a chance of hitting, is it the southern hemisphere that is in danger? I've searched the web for info, and virtually everywhere I've been has indicated that although it will be considered a 'near miss', Toutatis will actually miss by 1.5 million kilometers.....
