A Welshman has toppled the world oyster-eating champion at an international festival in Co Down.
Steve Tiesteel, 56, swallowed a stomach-churning 171 oysters to pip Norwegian Rune Naeri who only managed 163. Naeri clinched the title at the Hillsborough International Oyster Festival last year - and got into the Guinness Book of Records - when he gobbled 187 oysters in just three minutes.
However the wily Welshman proved to have a stronger stomach as competitors battled it out in the 12th annual event. Participants came from Northern Ireland, the US, New Zealand, Japan and various parts of Europe. About 2,500 oysters - all sourced locally from Dundrum Bay - were consumed by thousands of visitors to the popular two-day festival.
