26 schoolkids lost on the Beacons

26 schoolkids had to call in search&rescue services today because their 'MENTAL' Caretakers sent them up the Brecon Beacons on a D-OF-E award scheme with a compass/map in galeforce weather.

I own (not financially) every inch of that terrain - And would NEVER attempt a hike in such.
SAS members have died there, recently - Elite troops from all nations train there - And some MORON sent 26 kiddies up there in adverse weather.....!
Is it me, or are folk just becoming stupider (New word) by the minute?

They were never lost, that was a media misreporting. Two fell ill, and low cloud and rain had swept in so they called police as a precaution, as they were trained to do. They were coping fine with the weather, from what I can tell. The Mountain Search and Rescue team said this type of incident was not uncommon with groups doing a Duke of Edinburgh award.

Not a place to send kids, in adverse conditions. Many dead soldiers would agree - If they could.

Bollux - I Did the same award 35 yrs ago - Same place (Good weather) 90 Mins up a hill - 15Mins down to a reservoir. One night camp near a farm, light a fire, kip, go home.
No mobiles/cells back then - But one wrong turn - You're dead.
It's negligence on their tutors' behalf.
