Austrian historians are ridiculing California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (news - web sites) for telling the U.S. Republican convention that he saw Soviet tanks in his homeland as a child and left a "Socialist" country when he moved away in 1968.
Re: Austrian history v Schwarzenneger
Unbelievable!..
Maybe he passed through Prague when he moved to US?
Is this for real?

There was already a discussion about started on Friday.
My response there:

Interesting as well, what and how CNN reports.
Their correspondants obviously didn't notice that the actual Austrian Minister Ernst Strasser (Conservative Party ?-VPf) of the Interior told Schwarzenegger in New York yesterday: "Learn History!" (referring to 'Lernen Sie Geschichte', a famous saying by the former Social-Democratic chancellor Bruno Kreisky.
The reaction in Austrian media ranges from astonishment to refusal.
(The reaction of my Austrian aunt and uncle: what can you expect from a bodybuilder, especially from one from Styria.)
I think he may have hit his head as a youngster, and was thinking of a movie pitch when he made those comments.
