How hard would it be if you knew how to speak Russian(how hard is it to learn?) to Join the Russian military and then serve in Chechnya? Is there anomosity towards Americans in Russia still? especialy in relation to joing the military as an officer? Thanks and I would realy appreciate the info, as there is no one in particular that I can ask this of. Any Russians out there, or eastern europeans or people who are in the know?
You can do it, but it would be quite hard for an American.
Story from the BBC about it.
Now the real question for me is;
Why would an American WANT to join the Russian army and serve in Chechnya?
yep
why would it be hard for an american specifically, do you mean culturally.
That article was awesome thanks, but I still wonder about being american and all over there. Basically I just want to get some combat experience, and I find Iraq and afghnaistan to not be very promising for that, its ironic but your more like a cop than a soldier over there. I could realy excel in chechnya get vital expeieremce than maybe go into the Army or marine corps in the states. Or just sit on my ass and get baked thinking about the **** i had done, go figure I just want to go is all. I don't like the current pussy footing around in the U.S. The rebels in Chechnya are much more sophisticated, and I can "fight some the taliban" there anyway, In chechnya there are lots of left over elements of arabs from the soviet war in afghanistan. there definately muslim exteremists, but to be honest i don't realy care who they are.
OK, so the assumption I'm making here is that you are a teenage male;
The reasons it would be hard are; You don't speak Russian, and you don't SEEM to know a great deal about Russia.
It seems that you want to join the military, and there's nothing wrong with that, but, really, why would you want to join the Russian army? Their army is mostly consripts, they pay very poorly, they are poorly equipped, and the war in Chechnya is not the sort of place you want to be running into lightly.
If you do want to join the army, you would be MUCH better off joining your own. Unless you are a sucker for punishment.
By the way, welcome to A2K john.
john, why don't you just move to L.A.?
There's some bad memories at(of) a certain hotel near Hollywood.

Russia was actualy founded by the swedish Russ who were Vikings, actualy I am in my 20's I don't know alot about Russia, but I know some especialy in relation to the cold war, WWII, Ivan the terrible, the wars in 1800's over eastern europe, 2nd largest oil reserves in the world, i know St. petersburg was leningrad during the cold war(or is that stalingrad?) moscow's the capitol and russian street speed is methcathinone. a little random knowledge there, but anywho it sounds like it would not be hard from what your saying, basically my cconcern is that the Ruskies will send me out to die, and or give me **** for being an american.
