well that took an unexpected turn

but back to the dog in the distance

another famous line in literature is, "suddenly a shot rang out"

we have a dog in our neighbourhood, who barks, unfortunately not in the distance, in fact right a cross the street, the novel i would most like to read includes this line, "in the distance a dog began to bark, suddenly a shot rang out, the silence that followed was met with joy throughout the land"
