A man is carrying his elderly, blind mother on a 17-year pilgrimage from the north to the south of India.
Kailashgiri Brahmachari, 32, has already covered 3,750 miles in the past eight years and hopes to end his spiritual quest at a holy festival in 2013.
"It is the will of God," says Kailashgiri

Not to sound negative but why would God want you to do that?
So you can show how much you appreciate Him, and to gain a good place in Heaven / reincarnation (in this case)?
Or something to do with Pickles, perhaps...
well yeah, but don't you think the part that is earning him a place in heaven is the pilgrimage itself? Why would carrying your blind mother assure you a place in heaven? I would assume that taking her a long in a cart or on a donkey would suffice. It's the carrying part I don't get.
only god knows such things Kristie...
i wouldnt question it
Ehh... they don't have money for a donkey? The mother is overprotective? The mother wants to have a good incarnation as well?
If she wants a good reincarnation she'd better get walkin'.
