It was one of the toughest fights Jorun Lyngstad had experienced during her time as a Norwegian police officer.
A wood grouse, Europe's biggest game bird, attacked the off-duty officer during a bike ride in the woods, sending her flying through the air.
Lyngstad had to use her bike as a weapon to fight off the bird. "It wouldn't give up," she said. "It was a harder fight than I usually see when I'm on duty."
The bird finally took flight leaving Lyngstad nursing heavy bruising.
Granted, they are big birds but a swift kick should have scared the thing off!
Damn! That must be some big ass bird.
Ok, I could imagine having trouble with an emu or a cassawary (not sure how that's spelled), but to be knocked flying by something called a grouse? What the hell is it?
They are about the size of a turkey. I have no empathy for a plice officer who can't fight off a turkey.
A wood grouse, also known as capercaillie, can be up to three feet tall, and weigh up to nine pounds.
nice one Montana

i was looking for a piccy 2... thx

mean looking bird that...
You're welcome :-D Yeah, it looks like it could have quite the attitude. I know I wouldn't want to be attacked by one ;-)
